What Exactly is Brahmi?

Brahmi (scientific name Bacopa monnieri) is a creeping, succulent perennial herb that grows in tropical wetlands across India, Southeast Asia, and the Americas. It is also known as water hyssop, herb of grace, or Indian pennywort.

Important: In some regions, the name “Brahmi” is also used for Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola). These are two distinct plants with different properties. Learn how to tell them apart →

The plant’s primary active compounds are bacosides (saponins), which are believed to support cognitive health by enhancing neural communication and protecting brain cells from oxidative stress.
